OVERVIEW

     White crystal or crystal powder. Soluble in water, insoluble in carbinol, ethanol and ether. It can be precipitated by phosphotungstic acid from its concentrated solution and react with concentrated alkali solution to produce ornithine, carbon dioxide and  hydrogen nitride. It exists in melons such as watermelon. In human body, citrulline is a non protein amino acid, which does not participate in protein synthesis. Citrulline is a non protein amino acid, which has the ability of peptide bond formation, but does not participate in protein synthesis.
