OVERVIEW

   Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD), also known as azine diphosphate nucleotide (DPN), or co dehydrogenase I or coenzyme I. In mammals, there are two states: oxidized (NAD⁺) and reduced (NADH). The oxidized (NAD⁺) has the maximum ultraviolet absorption spectrum at 260nm. Through various deaminases, it receives a hydrogen atom and an electron from the substrate to become reduced (NADH), and has the maximum absorption at 340nm.

1. An essential coenzyme in organisms, which is used for biochemical research, clinical diagnosis, clinical drugs and drug research.

It plays an irreplaceable role in glycolysis, gluconeogenesis, tricarboxylic acid cycle and respiratory chain. The intermediate product will pass the removed hydrogen to NAD to make it NADH⁺ H⁺. NADH⁺ H⁺ will be used as the carrier of hydrogen to synthesize ATP through chemical osmotic coupling in the respiratory chain.
