OVERVIEW
L-methionine is an essential amino acid for human and animal nutrition. It is often used to prepare compound amino acid infusion, drugs for the treatment of acute hepatitis and liver cirrhosis, and antidotes of drugs. DL Methionine is widely used in the compound feeding of cattle, pigs and chickens. Its metabolism is associated with cysteine. In prokaryotes, formylated methionine is the starting amino acid of protein biosynthesis. It can also be activated by ATP and transformed into S-adenosylmethionine, which participates in the synthesis of creatine and choline as a methyl donor.
USES & EFFECTIVENESS
1. Improve immune function
1) Nonspecific immunity: it is reported that critical methionine deficiency will reduce the phagocytosis of peripheral lymphocytes in broilers. The test shows that the content of blood albumin in broilers increases linearly with the increase of the level of liquid methionine hydroxyl analogue (LMA) in the diet, The phagocytic activity of peripheral lymphocytes and serum lysozyme activity increased first and then decreased with the increase of LMA level, indicating that the addition of LMA in diet can improve feed utilization and nonspecific immune function of broilers.
2) Specific immunity: humoral immunity a large number of studies have shown that the level of methionine in diet can affect the humoral immunity of animals. The addition of methionine to the cellular immunized poultry diet can promote the proliferation and transformation of T lymphocytes in peripheral blood, thymus and spleen, while methionine deficiency reduces the proliferation and transformation of T lymphocytes.
2. Improve antioxidant capacity
It is found that methionine is one of the important nutrients. It can produce metabolites such as glutathione (GSH), cysteine and sulfate through sulfur transformation. These sulfur-containing amino acids and GSH are antioxidants. Antioxidants such as GSH can scavenge H2O2 and lipid peroxidation free radicals in the body.
3. Improve reproductive performance
Methionine can improve the fertilization rate of breeding eggs and the hatching rate of fertilized eggs, and the chicks are strong and neat after hatching. Studies have shown that methionine is involved in sperm formation, and low methionine level diet can significantly reduce sperm density and effective sperm quantity.
4. Detoxification function
Methionine is an essential amino acid for animals. It can be used to methylate toxic substances or drugs. It is found that methionine can combine with mycotoxin in diet to greatly reduce its toxicity, so it has the function of disease prevention and health care for animals
