OVERVIEW

    Methionine (English: methionine, also known as methionine) is an essential amino acid in all metazoans. Together with cysteine, methionine is one of two sulfur-containing proteogen amino acids. It is the only sulfur-containing essential amino acid for human, including L-type and D-type, which is closely related to the metabolism of various sulfur-containing compounds (such as protein) in organisms. It is the main source of active methyl and sulfur in vivo. DL Methionine is white flake crystal or crystalline powder. It has a special smell. It tastes slightly sweet. It is stable to heat and air. It is unstable to strong acids, which can lead to demethylation. Dilute acid and dilute reducing solution. It is extremely insoluble in ethanol and almost insoluble in ether.
